Get More Engineers Into USA Tech Co's -- Sign Letter to Senate!
As you know, we need more engineers in our USA tech companies. We are very close to getting a bill approved that would go a long way to help employees from countries like China and India who have been in visa limbo for years due to an outdated rule. Sen. Schumer has been a leader on this issue and spent the last seven months working with opponents to reach consensus. To help get the bill over the finish line, we are asking companies to show their support for repealing the per country cap. We need love your help on two fronts:
1. SIGN THE LETTER THAT YOU CAN FIND HERE!
2. FORWARD this note to other tech companies with whom you work and urge them to show their support by adding their name to the letter as well.
The more company names we can add to this letter the more of an impact it will have on negotiations and final passage. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. - Ron Conway, sf.citi
We Have a Winner! SF Summer Jobs+ CodeSprint Virtual Hackathon
April, sf.citi, TechCentralSF, and City and County of San Francisco announced the first SF Code Sprint: a call to developers to use the White House and Department of Labor SummerJobs+ API to build jobsearch apps for browsers, social networking platforms, and phones. The results are in and we have a winner: congratulations to David Gobaud!
David created BackToWork.us (http://www.backtowork.us), a service designed to help veterans find career opportunities compatible with their military service. Using Ruby on Rails, BacktoWork.us searches the Summer Jobs+ 2012 database and National Resource Director's Veterans Job Bank by the user's military occupation code to help with translating military skills to civilian employer needs. There is also an iOS app, available at http://www.backtowork.us/ios. David is a Stanford student working on his thesis this summer. Thank you David and congratulations!
